What a warrior and what an inspiration. Having just become a supporter of the whites, I wonder if any lifers can tell me where Mac will go down in the history books of the club? How do his numbers compare to some of the old schoolers and legends or does he make his mark with his dedication and loyalty?

I asked LBno11 once if he thought BMB would qualify as a "Fulham legend." He said that he probably wouldn't get enough years in the black and white for that status, but that he'd be fondly remembered and always cited as a man who represented the club and the profession well.

    Can't complain about that.

so it's fair to say that his name may not last for the ages but if he were to get tossed in the pokey in south london, he wouldn't have to wait long to make bail.

    accurate?

Well for the USA mens national team, i think his name will last for the ages. Here are some quotes upon his retirement from international play.

For Brian, it's not the numbers that make him, as you have seen attested to here.

That wasnt what made him a Crew legend, either. The City of Columbus has given him two testimonials... and I wouldnt be surprised if there's yet a third.

I hope you're right, he certainly deserves it.

I just worry that we've got so many other interests and sports heroes in this country that it's hard to revere all of them. My kids know Staubach, Aikman, Dorsett, Irvin, Pearson and Smith. They also have heard me talk about the Aguire, Blackmon and Davis days as well as Nowitski, Nash and others. They might even have some familiarity with the names Turco and Modano. Sure they've heard Donovan, McBride and Beasley. More recently Altidore, Adu and Dempsey. I just don't know that they know Wynalda, Reyna and Lalas. I know that's my fault for not teaching them the past as far as soccer goes but they're all under 12 and most have only seen the last world cup.

    And therein lies the rub.

Romo, TO, Barber and Whitten. Harris, Terry, Howard and Nowitzki. These are names they will know. Toja, Moor, Burse and Dax to a lesser degree.

And so it goes. Adu but not McBride. Wombach but not Foudy. Cooper but not Kreis.

    Steady on.

DB, you also must remember that Brian has not gone out of his way to be memorable. He would pass up a chance for a hattrick if any teammate had a better look in. He never courted controversy. He never sang a chorus of "it's all about me."

The current Fulham fans appreciate him though; they made him supporters player of the season for the last two campaigns.

As for me, if I had a son and he turned out like Macca, I'd have no complaints at all.

Agree with all above. He's my favorite footballer by far. Not only is he from my state, he's class through and through. With all the narcissism in sport these days, it's refreshing to see someone like Mac just put his head down and play the game.
