    From the article Tim linked:

What?! Haven't seen anything else about this, including the type of injury.

I noticed that too. Bear in mind that SOCCERNET get their match previews from British sportswriters who as we all know [forgive me, Martin-in-Nashville] just make up shit for a living.

I was wondering about that too. Thinking maybe ESPN doesn't have their facts straight. Hoping ESPN doesn't have their facts straight.

Huh, how about that, Roy is actually planning to use his depth:
Putting aside the morbidity of the use of the word "survive", I guess that means we're looking at:

    Stockdale
    Paintsil, Baird, Smalling, Kelly
    Gera, Riise, Greening, Davies
    Nevland, Kamara

Assuming the Soccernet preview is right that Murphy and Dempsey are absent due to injury, the bench might then be Schwarzer, Hughes, Hangeland, Etuhu, Duff, Zamora and AJ.

Weird that there appear to be only 21 players (not counting "Player list B") eligible to play; I thought it was 25. Missing the cut along with EJ were Zuberbuhler, Kallio, Andranik, Chicago, Seol and Elm.

From Roy on the official site:

"“I made the decision fairly early on that, with this being the first game following an international week and a very important game against Everton, this was the right moment to let one or two of the lads, who we’ve not seen too much of, show what they can do. Of course there are also people like Simon Davies who need games.

“I fully believe that the team we put out on the field will be a very competitive team. I have great faith in the players and there’s no point in signing players like Jonathan Greening, Bjorn Helge Riise, Zoltan Gera, Erik Nevland, Joe Kamara, Stephen Kelly or Chris Baird of you’re not prepared to use them."

Coach-speak. I think I'm going to be glad to be distracted by work and not following this one minute by minute. Of course, it wouldn't be the first time Roy's proven me wrong, but I suspect a repeat of the Perm road match.

Timing-wise I'm not surprised by the players who'll be getting a rest. However, you'd think this is the best shot at taking points on the road, so I'm surprised we're not going for it more. That or Sophia aren't that good. :?

For those of you who have DirecTV this game is on the Europa League mix on channel 467. For those of you who don't have DirecTV, time to buck up the 100 bucks to get the dish.

I was driving in to work this morning and they were playing the Bulgarian national anthem on the radio. I thought, "That's not a good omen." It was part of a bit, apparantly a driver in Bulgaria was pulled over and registered the highest ever BAC in the world. A Lithuanian man was second. The US was down the list by a bit.

Glad I have DirecTV! I'm going to DVR it cause I'm only going to be able to watch the first half live since I have a doctor's appointment. I'll be able to come home and watch the 2nd half.

I have DirecTV, and I was thinking of switching to AT&T U-verse. But all this UCL and Europa League coverage, complete with these mix channels, is making me think again.
