Why not just go ahead and expand it to cover the entire Americas (and Canada)?

Would be not so good news for most North American teams, but I'd say we'd be up to eventually closing the gap.

    Vamos la Fla!!

    {just copy everything from the url box to the first '&'}

    - Crap video.
    - nice 'Third World' sport atmosphere. heh.. dont worry, we're getting there.
And ..uh.. what's the translation of that tournament name?

How about we dominate Concacaf, FIRST.

Thank you for the fix, as I couldn't figure out where to start and end in the parsing.

The crap video helps relate the "Developing Nation" (not 3rd World, you insensitive git) atmosphere.

Strictly translated, The Liberators Cup. And George Bush would think he had a soccer tournament named after him!

If I'd have seen this one first, I wouldn't have posted in the CCL thread.

But to put it where it belongs:

Flight time from Seattle to Rio: ~ 14 hours, assuming non-stop flight.

Teams can't fly 12-16 hours to get to mid-week games.

    the evolution of "developing"

    1. backward
    2. undeveloped
    3. underdeveloped
    4. developing

    "Third world" has two parents:

    1. Old World [Europe} New World [North America] Third World [Asia, Africa, South America, etc.] There's not anything particularly perjoritive here. It's just that you needed something other Old and New -- sort of like where the art world adopted "modernism" and then were stud afterwards.

    2. First World, Second World, Third World [pretty much the same geographical breakdown]. There is definitely some perjoritive in this arena -- 1st = old money from colonial hegemony; 2nd = new money from exploiting natural resources/innovation; 3rd = debtor nations who can't handle their own populations, don't understand the joys of capitalism, white bread, and representative democracy.

Within the context of "America's futbol" -- as Pettyfog rightly put it, we're sort of 3rd world -- if you consider Argentina and Brazil and equivalent in football to Britain, France, and Spain in terms of global impact.

Of course, Christian does like to go directly for the gotcha line.
