Wolf- I was glad to see Wolf get another shot w/ the National Team and I think his performance will earn him more call-ups. Tracked back countless times to help thwart Brazilian attacks and got himself into some dangerous attacking positions. Had the really bad touch when he made a good run up the left wing w/ the ball, tried to cut back and had the defender beaten but overhit the ball. The Brazilian central defender intercepted and immediately sprung a counter in which Brazil scored the own goal after the unbelievable Ronaldinho flick pass to Kaka. CANNOTT BELIEVE that there was no call on a clear pull down from behind by Lucio on the thundering Pearce shot that was parried right to Wolf. No doubt he would have scored if not taken down. Good job Wolfie

Dempsey- He's the man. Sweet, sweet taken goal off the feed from Cherundolo. Dempsey can still improve a bunch, and if he does, look out!!!!

    Subs:
Johnson- he's got pace. didn't see much other than that although he was wide open on that break and Convey decided to dribble the ball and lose it.

Convey- all i'm going to say is he's been out of football for almost a year...so i will give him somewhat of a pass...although I wish he would pass every once in awhile!!! not giving up on him, but has to play a whole lot better to continue to get call ups IMO.

Arnaud- too late to show me much...although he was flying up that right wing. want to see him again to get a better opinion.

    Part IV...

    Brazil....
Ronaldinho is a sick, SICK player!!!! He won the match for Brazil. That flick through to Kaka was unreal!!! Kaka....I can't believe a guy can outrun someone while dribbling the ball...but that's what he did several times...one time in particular against Bradley for like 45 yards. Robinho...what the hell was that magic trick on the endline to get by two guys?
Those 3 guys are difference makers...Ronaldinho in particular. do we have any difference makers? not along the likes of those guys, but even without one we truly pushed those guys to the limit. W/out Ronaldinho that match, the USA wins IMO. I'm proud of the guys for the spirit they showed and am optimistic for the future of this team.

omsdogg well said. I said Bradley can play and hes only what 20? Him and Feilhaber are the best combo we have in the middle. I'm not a big fan of clark. I really like the 4 backs that started especially on the outside. Boca deserves to wear the armband, he plays with that kind of intensity. I want Demeritt to get a chance to challenge Gooch though. I'm happy people are finally seeing what Bradley can do.

To be fair, there aren't a whole lot of countries that can put a player of Ronaldinho's caliber on the field. (Or even someone who qualifies as a "difference maker" but not quite on that level, a la how dominant Ibrahimovic was in the Sweden friendly.) I don't think we need to hang our heads over not being one of them.

thanks to all y'all for the updates. I agree with jmh about the "difference maker" situation. There are so few players in the world that can clearly take over a match at ANY level. Three of them were on the field in Chicago. Essian was one of those guys [he hasn't looked like much this year], Henry still is, Eto'o can be. The crazy head-butting Corsican Zidane certainly was one. Donovan's the closest thing we've ever had.

I'm glad to see everyone feeling good about the match and about the USMNT. If Altidore, Johann Smith, and Zimmerman come through to give us a solid attack, we might show the world some shit in 2010!

Not many teams can score on Brazil twice. We earned three goals.

Oddly enough I think they earned the own goal after I saw the replay.

Hmmmm... You are going to have to explain. From the replay - it looked as if there were no Brazil attackers in the line of the deflection so if gooch was not there it would have cleared the area un-touched.

I kind of agree with CincyFulham, the beauty and fluidity of the passing and movement, with the through ball from Ronaldihio was just increadible. They deserved to score at the end of the move, and if it had been a Brazillian putting it into the top corner we would be talking about an all time great goal.

As it was, the US were unlucky to conceed and there was little that the defender could do to avaoid it. Very pleasing to see our two boys on the scoresheet, Dempsey must be full of self belief right now.
