I don't know. It's my first time playing organized soccer since college, so I'm excited. And also, I'd love to hear about other member's playing soccer exploits.

Red Bar United (http://eteamz.active.com/ballsout/) earned some much needed confidence in last night's scrimmage, establishing their dominance over their challengers after spotting the losers a goal, and went on to win 3-1.
FulhAmerican and active FulhamUSA member Christian "FFCinPCB" Franek could be seen marshalling Liam Rosenior's Right Back position with solid defense, lightning quick runs up the field (with perhaps only mild static electricity runs back), and curling, pin point crosses. FCCinPCB's only shot on goal was bottled a la Radzinski and neatly cleaned up by the enemy's back-up keeper.

Red Bar United's first Destin League match will be held this Sunday in Destin, FL. Due to technical difficulties, you will not be able to follow the match on-line or via a Gentleman Jim live broadcast. (Nor will you beable to pirate this match on a Chinese website). No one will be in the matchday chatroom to talk about this either. However, unless anyone really complains, I will post a short summary after the matches, if I remember.

Good luck PCB, a lot of people talk about getting into leagues but few actually make the jump. It won't be easy but if you enjoy the game then it will be all good.

Funny you should start this thread because it seems our very own 'American Mike' is the newest "Yank Abroad".

A couple of nice goals as well...

Oh yeah, our kits have been overhauled (to my liking) because of a new sponsor, The Red Bar (http://www.graytonbeach.com/redbar.html), owned by a giant 6'6 Belgian (whose home team is none other than the Gooch's own Standard Liege) who will be playing Striker some and Keeper some. We will now be sporting the much more attractive red tops, black shorts, and white socks. All colors I can agree too. And if we ever manage a 2nd kit, I'll be lobbying hard for The Whites!

Watch out right or left wingers! I'm goofy footed too.

    Thank you, BoasBoy.

That is a pretty high-tech site for FSFC. Great clips, and Mike looks like a natural scorer. If I had an extra $50,000.00, I'd say I'll fly the boys over for a friendly.

Get'em FFCinPCB!! Let us all know how the team is doing!! I would love to play in a league, but I have two problems:

    1. I am probably not good.
    2. I do not know anyone that plays.

We all start somewhere. Or start, stop, start, stop, and now start once more.

I'm sure Chicago has all kinds of leagues for all levels of ability. And this time of year, I have think indoor is going off. Check the net, if you get interested enough. I'm sure it wouldn't bee too hard to find. Bonus: You can down a few more carbs (especially after a win) and still keep your girlish figure.

Speaking of girlish figures, how's Heather's foray into footy going? Anyone else?

Tom, just check out Craigslist.org. That's how I found my teammates. I started in a 7v7 league and we formed an indoor team for the winter.

I need to stop playing defense, I have taken too many shots to the face (ball and elbows). But, then again, it gives me another "war story" to tell my co-workers.

Oh yeah, Tom, if you're worried about your abilities just be sure to join a co-ed league, they're not as gung-ho and there are lots of beginners.

School? Team? Position? Record? And plenty more.

Give us the scoop, Buchanan, if you like. Heck, high school was my shining moment, with the only goal for our team in the state playoffs.

Lol thanks FFCinPCB, allow me to bore you.

For starters my school is Mitchell High School.

Unfortunately American football and basketball are gods there and soccer is pretty much looked down on.

Our entire team is essentially a JV team yet we play Varsity. We only have one Senior, two juniors, 7 sophomores including myself, and about 6 freshman. Only about 6 players take it truly seriously, the rest are just out there.

Needless to say really, we finished last in our conference winning maybe 2 games.

Im sure I would have been no help at all, but all I got to do was watch games this season because I tore my ACL in the second game.

I play right winger, and was fortunate enough to score in the one game I played. Drawing 2-2.

Our coach has been trying really hard to get our team better, he entered the freshman and some sophomores into an indoor league, and is working to get the team to a camp this summer.

My knee is starting to heal up and I practiced with the team for the first time last Friday.

Im hoping that our season this year will be a lot better and that our players will improve.

If nothing else I am making damn sure I will be able to play by then, and give the team my all. Hopefully getting us a spot in the middle of the conference.

Awesome, Buchanan. Nowadays, tearing your ACL seems like a rite of passage in sports. They can rebuild you, they can make you stronger.

Best of luck to you and Mitchell High. Keep this thread updated with the exploits of you and the Mustangs this season.

    Cheers!

Me and some of my buddies are trying to form a team, but we need to find a league in the NYC area. We're looking and hopefully by spring we can get going. Anyone know of some springtime or summertime leagues around NYC?

This sounds terribly familiar! Unfortunately I wasn't able to play in this my senior year because my school shut down at the end of last year :x and my new school doesn’t have a team.

Anyhow last year I was on a team full of 9th and 10th graders who didn't take much of anything seriously much less soccer. If someone farted in the mini van on the way to a game it was like the highlight of their day, they'd still be giggling about it 3 hours later. It was that sort of group. I was captain but despite my best efforts we sucked in every way imaginable! We won two games both against a little art school, whose team was just as pathetic. In our playoff game we played a fairly big suburban school and lost 16-0. No joke 16-zippo.

I'm not much of a player, an average high school player at best, but I do enjoy it. I'd like to get into a league this summer, work makes it very hard but hopefully I'll be able to find a league and make it work.

Good luck PCB, I think since your playing Rosenior's position you should grow a fro like his 8)

Never let item 1 be an issue. I have been dead wood my whole career. My body only works for the first sprint of the game, after that I'm blowing. I've worked on a principle of tactical violence (kneecapping the fit young sod who I am up against) and thinking football (pass the man on so he is someone elses responsibility).

To date that has worked fairly well. When we conceed I can blame someone else for not picking up the man that should have been mine!

The team I play for is on the down side of their glorious caree which have included league and cup success. We are now looking forward to Vetrans football where we will be the young fit ones again!

I too was a victim of a torn ACL. I'm now on the mend post surgery and finally have clearance from my ortho to kick the ball some. This spring should see me back to my pre-injury games although I'm strongly considering ending my indoor career as 2 of my teammates, as well as myself, have suffered major ligament damage in the space of one season.

Apparently very common in indoor, same happened to a woman I know.

Wonder if you got a shoe with a little less 'grip'... better to slip a little then wrench something

Even though my playing days ended about 30 years ago, I'm enjoying this thread as much as any other that I've read in a long time [thanks PCB!]. Please keep posting guys and gals. I look forward to hearing about goals scored, scars received, and trophies hoisted.

It's the greatest game in the world, and I'm glad you're enjoying playing it!
