Ugh, no Trout tonight, he narrowly escaped a serious hand/wrist injury diving for a ball (didn't stop him from hitting a grand slam 2 innings later), advantage Astros.

Anybody else follow along with today's craziness? Dodger/Marlin/braves trade, Mets/brewers/Wilmer Flores fiasco, hamels to Rangers. Am I missing anything?

Break up the Blue Jays. That lineup is redonkulous, adding Tulo and Price makes them the front runner to winning the AL.

I question if their pitching will hold up. They're cruising now, but playoff baseball is a different animal. KC is still the favorite in the AL, imo.

The NL is anyone's guess but I wouldn't bet against the Cards.

I can't bet against the Cards, or Pirates for that matter, in the NL - both north of .600 ball. The Mets have a few good arms...but they're the Mets and Bill Buckner isn't around anymore. The Giants are walking wounded right now and the fact they are only 2.5 out in the West is a testament to the Dodgers continually falling on their face. The Royals have experience, but the talent in Toronto is no slouch. The Angels...what happened to them?

Nev, Trout hurt his wrist and hasn't been the same since, and the Angels depend on him and Puljols to carry the rest of a mediocre lineup. That said the 2nd wildcard is up for grabs so who knows.

Astros have the worst team batting average in all of baseball. However, they have the best team ERA in the AL (third overall).

I'm hoping the rotation holds up and the bats get hot at the right time.

As I type this, the Cardinals are 36 games over .500. That's obscene. Not even the most reasonable die hard Redbird fan would've told you that this team was capable of something like this, especially with the injuries we've had this season. Mike Matheny's biggest problem will be figuring out who to leave out of the post season roster when everybody gets healthy. There's even an outside chance Wainwright will be ready by then. There's a whole lot of baseball left, and stranger things have happened, but I feel pretty good about where we are. Once the post season starts, however, it really is a whole new ball game. Just look at 2006.

Instead of the Mariners taking a 5-1 lead, Trout went Spiderman in a game the Halos would win in a walkoff 3-2:

One of the best catches I've ever seen. He needs to stop doing that though, astros need to get in the playoffs!

I'm certain that I owe a certain St. Louis Cardinals supporter $1. Playoffs are a-comin' and I will watch some playoff games because I'm a 1/10000 person that still loves the game. Blue Jays are my new dark horse, they have pitching, a veteran lineup and I can't seem to figure them out. Seems like most others already thought the Jays were good.

I'll leave any additional Papelbon v. Harper Nats commentary for those in the know. Still, whether it's the NL MVP or backup catcher, it's bad form to fight a teammate in the dugout, during a game, in which one participant is still a pitcher. I played this game through college and I cannot forgive not running out anything, be it a ground ball, pop up, etc. but I disagree with Papelbon's timing. That situation needs to be handled in the clubhouse or anywhere but the field.

Congratulations to the LA Dodgers, and specifically, Mr. Kershaw. With a chance to clinch the NL West, he only threw a 1-hitter (which was a complete flare into right-center) and struck out 13. The Giants had no answer for him - the few balls they did hit hard were right at a Dodger. He's 6 Ks away from 300 for the year, and nobody since the Big Unit in '01 or '02 has hit 300 Ks. Kershaw would get my vote for Cy Young at this point. Edit - forgot about Jake Arrieta, so that's a close call for me re Cy Young.

And SCJ, the Angels have crept back into the race and might be taking a trip to the Bronx for a one-off. The 'stros are still lingering about though - that #2 wild card in the AL should be interesting down to the wire.

Ah yes, but tomorrow is October, and that's when Mr. K turns into a pumpkin.

Given past performances, I'd agree. But the record may improve because he only has to strike out Mr. Met at this point...

@dcheather It's a disgrace the way they (Red Sox/NESN) treated him. For those that don't know the Red Sox own a majority of NESN with the Boston Bruins pretty much owning the remaining portion. Rumor has it there is a higher up that did not like Don. It was not one of the principal owners. Dave O'Brien was rumored to be heading elsewhere, Dodgers I believe, and that higher up didn't want to loose him. They were not going to make it public until January but someone let the cat out of the bag early.

As for not showing the video on TV, IMO it was done out of spite. They did not want to give Don his due. Asshats.

To paraphrase what someone said "Ever notice no one leaves the Red Sox gracefully?" Think back to Terry Francona and Theo Epstein to name two.

In memory of Don watch the pizza throwing clip. It's worth the 3 min.

And another good one where lets just say a fan got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. But the best is listening to him and Jerry try get through the rest of the at bat.
