I think this unfortunately means that meaningful change is less likely. Blatter will be the fall guy while the system that perpetuates corruption in FIFA can continue. The entire system needs to be overhauled rather than just a change in leadership.

Very likely, but we have to wait and see. I have a hard time seeing them ignore these issues and continue down the same path with some fear of oversight--US and Swiss investigations. They never had that fear before.

Y'all need to travel over to our FB page and view John Oliver's take on this whole thing. Highly entertaining.

I posted it in the fifa officials arrested thread as well. Perhaps I should merge the 2? They are related, but I like the headline: "Holy Crap!!! Blatter Resgins."

    Conspiracy theory:

Blatter only let the election continue in order to gain time to hand pick his successor for the next election in which he will persude his majority conglomerate to vote for his guy behind the scenes.

Great thread title, firstly. But, as the great crooner, BarryWhite, eluded to, this could be a total fabrication. It's akin to when Kramer runs for president of Del Boca Vista Phase 3(?) just so Jerry's dad can be the puppet master behind the scenes...ok, too many Seinfeld references.

Look, I get the pessimism in regards to FIFA reform and corruption. But why so soon? Can't you guys enjoy this moment just a little? A number of the cronies have been indicted and his buddy has been implicated this morning in a big bribe, which why he resigned...can't you see some positives? Just some? Just for a few moments?

Like Jack Warner was singing the other day, "Don't worry about a thing, because every little thing is gonna be alright. " Ok, umm...maybe worry a little. ;)

Ms. Senator, I concur, we should all enjoy this moment. And a Bud Light Lime as well.

I like this. The system may not change over the long haul, but at least there's a chance to flush some of it down the drain.

I'm glad you guys like my thread title. When I flipped on the TV and saw that he had resigned I actually yelled out "Holy Crap!!! Then figured it would make a great thread title.

I gotta try and find it, but the king of all embezzlers Jack Warner was being serious about the 'American Witch Hunt' by sighting an article from The Onion, lol.

Shaka Hislop was talking about the story when T&T played in the World Cup in 2006 and Warner agreed with the team to give them 50% of the net proceeds after the WC as the team bonus. Ol' Jack busted out a giant spreadsheet and each member of the team got a $800. It's this level of corruption that will be the legacy of Blatter.

Joe, John Oliver mentions Warner and Onion article in the video I posted above. You should watch it, it's quite funny about the scandal. Now the poor guy might have to own up to his promises at the end of the video.

I expect Sepp will be out a lot sooner than what he is claiming. As I mentioned in my second post in thread, his number 2 henchman went down. He'll flip and that will be that for poor Sepp. The question then becomes do we actually get a reformer and true reforms in place at FIFA. If not, I expect a potential revolt and breakaway organization.

They can't survive this much bad publicity. If how Russia and Qatar were rewarded a WC in detail and there's corruption involved (and let's not kid ourselves, we all pretty much know there was) there's very little to no chance of these WC's happening. Watch. FIFA isn't going to be immune from the standard corruption scandal fallout.
