Concacaf Champions League Final

Montreal went down to Azteca and managed a 1-1 draw against Club America in the first leg of the Final. Here is a shock…controversial refereeing. A non-red card given on a Montreal breakaway at the end of the first half, and a yellow card given to Impact GK Evan Bush which would see him suspended for second leg if it's not overturned (it's under appeal). The second leg is next week in Montreal as this is the best chance for an MLS team to win it since Real Salt Lake a few years ago.

Bumping this back up for no other reason that the second leg is tomorrow, 8 ET on Fox 2. Unfortunately Montreal lost its appeal on their GK's yellow card that is keeping him out (apparently their back-ups are hurt or cup-tied, so Pierre the team baker might be between the sticks). When you have to 911 sign and play the starting GK from Indy of the NASL the impending 2-4 home loss (Agg. finished 5-3 for America) shouldn't be a surprise, but have to give Montreal a bunch of credit. First, over 61,000 packed the old Olympic Stadium giving it a truly great atmosphere. Second, the hosts actually led at halftime 1-0. The goal to tie it was a thing of beauty by Benedetto (who add 2 more in the second half). No MLS team has won a two-legged Final (DC and LA won it in a single legged Final) yet….sigh
