Why? They were not involved in the 2022 bidding process and the 2018 WC is alreleady close enough to Eroupe. I could agree with Australia since they have never hosted a WC but not England in 2022.

They dropped out of 2022 and we dropped out of 2018 in an effort to combine support and win both. It was just tho "corrupt bargain" that probably lost BOTH our bids.

Why England instead of the US? Because England haven't hosted in a half century, invented the game, and its #1 sport is football. The US hosted 20 years ago, and soccer is less popular here than:
    gridiron football
    basketball
    baseball
    hockey
    NASCAR
    golf

I vote for Australia and then the US. There is some big anniversary coming up. England is the nation to host that.

Not US or anywhere in ConCaCaf. Because Jack Warner. Sooner or later you have to penalize corruption in sport by hurting those who allowed it to go on.

Punishing Concacaf nations because of Warner, who most likely wasn't the only corrupt dog in the room, doesn't make sense to me. Why is taking the event from the US some kind of justice when everybody involved in the decision process had the hands in the till?

'With Qatar being recently cleared of any corruption during bidding process'...
Who exactly investigated this? Some 'independent' company being paid by FIFA? Yeah, and that same company went back and have cleared Chicago election officials of corruption during the Mayor Daly's elections of the 1960's.

The fun part of this is watching what happens with FIFA clashes with the Italian, English, Spanish, and German leagues -- all of whom have their league schedule cut in half by this format and all of whom have lucrative world-wide contracts. Who will be the loser if both sides dig in? FIFA and the World Cup itself. We have shown this with the Olympics and Baseball.

2018 might just be the last World Cup as we know it.

Ah, this was just a recent addendum to the old Baker & Hamilton report. But, I still don't see the World Cup taking place in Qatar. The push-back will be immense by the various FAs and it hasn't even begun.

The only way this works is if they rework the entire club schedule to the aforementioned leagues' satisfaction, which isn't very likely and I wouldn't expect it. But...stranger things have happened. And the Qataris have deep pockets. Among the very deepest. And this ain't the Africa Cup Of Nations.

It's going to be a logistical nightmare not just for the domestic leagues, but what about the Champions League

From a selfish point of view, if the MLS schedule remains the way it is, as long as we qualify the US will have a huge advantage in preparation.

FIFA announced last week that it awarded US TV rights to the 2026 Cup to Fox. The announcement had a lot of people scratching their heads since these are usually drawn-out bidding processes. But the theory is, with 2022 moving to winter it would conflict with the NBA, NHL, and most importantly, the NFL. In short, there's no way a winter World Cup would earn the ratings a summer Cup would. Fox could actually be in a position to sue FIFA. The awarding of the 2026 Cup to Fox was, then, a preemptive make-good for the decreased value of the 2022 tournament. Sounds like FIFA is moving all the necessary pieces to make this happen.

Unless FIFA are kicking back money as well as awarding the 2026 WC to Fox I am having a hard time believing FOX is going to make any money on the US rights. I know the matches aren't live against the NFL but Fox had to be planning on tape delayed airings in the prime weekend time slots.

All I can say is Qatar never made any sense to me from an actual event standpoint and I doubt it will get any clearer when the various footballing leagues begin putting their two cents worth forward.
