The first base call was egregious...I remember that to this day and as a person who respects the Cards, but doesn't necessarily like them, I don't want to see it again either.

One huge advantage for NL teams is that it's far easier to adapt to AL rules concerning the DH than vice versa. Billy Butler will be relegated to a pinch hitter's role for the Royals. KC needs 1 victory to insure it going back home and with Bumgarner going in Game 4, and the pressure of a possible elimination game in Game 5 being really hard to overcome this is the game that gives them the best chance to win.

The Royals are going to win this if they can continue to play 9 innings while restricting their opponent to 6. This run their pen is on has gone past ridiculous. Come on Giants, touch them up already!!!

Which is why the DH is stupid in the beginning. Of course some will use the left-handed logical view that it's 'not fair' to the AL teams. Let's remember WHY it was instituted.... for 40 year old spitball pitchers and aging hero hitters who no longer could even pretend to be effective in the field.

That said, the Royals are still my favorite in this series.

And the somewhat disturbing run of pettyfog comments that I agree wholeheartedly with continues.

For a couple of seasons, Astros fans were told about an amazing -- albeit off-beat -- player in the system that all the playing staff wanted but the owner had some sort of problem with. Then we finally had a look at the guy. He looked goofy, but ran his ass off and showed amazing skill at all aspects of the game -- except for looking like a ball player. The Juice Box PA announcer [the one who make "Jeff Kent" sound like "Chad Chad"] made his name sound like "Underpants."

By the time of his first full season with the big club, he was a cult favorite. Then, in the early days of an effort to strip the club of all talent to make it more attractive to a future buyer, he was shipped off to Philly. And now he's working in Steve Perry-ville, and hitting around .465million in the World Series.

Still, his goofy looks and his all-out hustle style make Hunter Pence an object of derision by opposing fans and TV commentators. I prefer to think of him as the type of player every fan of every sport would love to have on his team. He's been like that since his first major league appearance.

Way to show America how to play the game, Underpants!

Great post HD, without a doubt every team would love to have Hunter Pence. I don't follow the National League much, so was surprised and amused by all the Hunter Pence signs at opposing ballparks. Here are some samples http://wapc.mlb.com/cutfour/2014/08/06/88251502/photos-the-11-best-hunter-pence-troll-signs-ranked

Jump, what a tragedy for the Cardinal's family and the families of the 2 young people. Only 18 and 22 years old is supposed to be about beginning your life, condolences.

Sad story about Taveres, just sad.

Don't feel like praising my club's WS win after that sentence, but Hunter Pence is my son's and my favorite Giant. My boy wears high socks because of Pence. Thanks for that link.

Matt's hated Toothpick Brigade was on full display in the decisive 2nd inning. Bloopers, infield hits, 2 misplays by the first baseman (no excuse for the Moustakas ball to get past him) and boom the game is basically over.

Not surprised it's going 7, but odd in the way it's gotten here. Was expecting a bunch of 2-1, 3-2 type games and it's been 5 comfortable wins and 1 close contest. The Game 3 KC win was that 3-2 game and the 2 starters from that game are going tonight. Old Man Tim Hudson gets the ball for the Giants while Mark Guthrie is going for the Royals. Bumgarner is available, but I'm sure Bruce Bochy is hoping Hudson can give him at least 5+ innings. KC is looking to get the lead early and turn it over to that sick bullpen. The Giants have been clutch on the road in the playoffs for years, so while KC has to be the favorite, anything is possible.

My stomach is in knots. KC is a good ball club and punishes mistakes (see last night). Game 7, it's what baseball is about - spoke to my old man after the game, and while he doesn't care for either club, he loves baseball and is stoked to watch a Game 7.

The only thing I can add to SCJ's post is that I have my SF Giants shirt on. I picked it up the day I met Nevzter and others at Pier 23 a few years back.

What an amazing game and an even more amazing performance by Bumgarner. The Giants win. The Giants win.

Congratulations to the Giants and their fans. I agree with the Fox announcers, Bruce Bochy will be in Cooperstown someday.
Cardinal pitchers and catchers report to Jupiter February 20. First Grapefruit League tilt is at Space Coast Stadium in Melbourne against the Nationals March 7th.
Opening Day is Monday, April 6th at Wrigley. Home opener is a week later, Monday, April 13 against the Brewers. Both are afternoon games.
Until then, I guess I'll bide my time rooting for Fulham to get back to the Barclays Premier League...and maybe more.

I knew before the game that if Bumgarner made an appearance, the Giants would win. Sure enough, he did and they won. A well deserved MVP performance throughout the Series and playoffs.

Bumgarner was a monster. Best performance in October I've witnessed since Hershiser back in '88 w/Dodgers.

Gotta know if Nev had an heart attack while the Giant outfielders were busy whiffing and booting the ball w/2 outs in the 9th. For a brief second I thought Gordon might go for an inside the park HR (or what would of been a single and a 3 base error).

3 title in 5 years for the Giants. While they might not be the Swingin' A's of the early 70's or The Big Red Machine right after that or those Yankees of the late 90's, it's an great achievement.

I read on here a while back that there was a California-based lefty who could be spoken of in the same sentence as Sandy Koufax. I think we saw that guy win three games in this series.
