Kicking off in South Korea tomorrow, the US will play their first group match on Monday v Ecuador. Looking forward to seeing Fulham's Luca De La Torre, Spurs' Cameron Carter-Vickers, and the rest of the team do some damage.

De La Torre saves the US a valuable point in extra time in a 3-3 draw. From the highlights, Ecuador exploited the US right side on both their opening goals, the biggest positive is the squad showed plenty of fight back.

Hmm. Right back, that's normally Fossey's domain...

Also doesn't help that a certain Tottenham center back was not in the lineup.

That kid Sargent can flat out score. Hopefully that talent continues to grow.

Watched the match via the magic of DVR. Jones [who came on as an injury sub], Lennon, Sargent, and de la Torre were all impressive. We were lucky to get a point -- primarily because Ecuador's striker was good under pressure. Had he not scored, Klinsmann would have certainly been red-carded for a foul on the other Ecuador striker in the penalty area about 3 seconds earlier. And then, of course, when we looked the more likely to break the tie and get the three points, Klinsmann lost control of the ball at his feet and we were 3-2 down. The young Fulham lad pulled it out for us.

Pretty impressive from Sargent. Clinical finish after being teed up by our man Luca.

Umm, question. Why isn't Ryan Sessegnon on the England squad? Just looked at their roster and recognized not one bloody name.

Call ups in England happened on May 8, no way Fulham was letting Sessegnon go anywhere then. Pretty sure teams aren't required to let players go for U-whatever tournaments, so that's probably why there's not a lot of recognizable names.

Teams are not required to release players for the U-whatever tournaments. Rumors are that Schalke refused to release Weston McKinnie and Nick Taitague to the US. Haji Wright is also a Schalke player.

I thought that was precisely the case, but I guess Tab never said? We'd be a stronger side with those guys.

Sargent's goal today was a thing of beauty. The slick passing leading up, then Sargent's turn and smash. Top of the table (albeit in a wide open group) going into the last group match.

The goal was clinical but we shouldn't fail to mention Tyler Adams touch to De La Torre. It was pretty sweet as well.

Forgot to set the dvr and missed the 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia that was good enough to win the group. The Good News; Brooks Lennon with his first goal. The Bad News: Carter Vickers was shown 2 yellows (the report I read said both cards were harsh) and will miss the knockout game against New Zealand.

I watched the first 50-60 minutes before falling asleep on my couch.

It was a complete ref show for the last 20 minutes of the first half and the ref handed out like 5-6 yellow cards for nothing to both teams, including both cards to CCV were complete crap.

Will also miss Jones (he has been good) and Herrera (he hasn't been good) due to yellow card accumulation as well.

I saw the whole thing via DVR. The match was ruined by what the Brits like to call "a fussy ref." We have three key players who'll miss our next match because this guy threw a yellow at anything tougher than a harsh look. My guy Cameron Carter-Vickers was whistled for two fouls, got a card for each, and we lost him for the rest of the match AND the next. Jones, our amazing central defensive mid will also miss the next match for his scond yellow of the tourney.

Lest you think this is a partisan thing, the yellows he threw on Saudi Arabia in the first half were bogus also. I saw EXACTLY ONE foul that could have qualified for a yellow. I'm always disgusted when an over-officious ref can render every player's efforts useless.

I believe we get New Zealand's "All Whites" in the next round. I think that SA gets through on the "best third place" thang. How will we do? I don't know, but with only one of our two hyphenated central defenders available, I doubt we'll get past them. Shame, really.

If Justen Glad is healthy we have a very good replacement at CB for CCV but we may be hurting badly at RB and DM. Herrera was already deputizing for Marlon Fossey and I'm not sure if there is another actual RB in the squad. Palmer-Brown played DM in the CONCACAF qualifiers but it's hard for me to imagine him not starting at CB. Tyler Adams may be the best option to replace Jones at this point.

It will be interesting to see how the team is deployed.

Boom indeed. Missing two key starters AND no goals from Josh Sargent. Really like how they kept their composure despite enormous high pressure early from NZ until they could get a hold of the match with that first goal. Same thing until that critical second goal just past the hour mark, then...BOOM! Great skill and finishing from the young Yanks, take no prisoners, clinical stuff. I'm sure Venezuela will be much, much tougher, but what a confidence builder for the kids! I LIKE IT! Come On You Yanks!

Sargent got credit for a goal in this match. Glad's shot glanced off him on the way into goal.

Scoring comes so easy to him. He doesn't even have to try.

Solid match all around. Should be interesting going up against Venezuela - a team that has yet to concede a goal. And since I don't have a dvr, I suppose I'm getting up at 2am Sunday.

The Good: an 11 pm left coast start time
The Bad: Venezuela has 2 extra days prep/rest (that makes a lot of sense )
The Ugly: Dean Wormer chimes with how many goals Venezuela has given up so far:
