Fulham have tabled a €2million (£1.6m) bid for Vitesse Arnhem left-back Alexander Buttner, according to reports in the Dutch media.

Cottagers boss Martin Jol is keen on the 23-year-old, who is also thought to be on the radar of Werder Bremen and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Buttner was in London this week for an initial introduction to the Premier League club, according to Dutch newspaper De Gelderlander.

His current deal in Arnhem expires next summer and the Cottagers are thought to be keen to tempt him away from the GelreDome.

The defender is a youth product at Vitesse and has notched up over 100 appearances since making his senior debut in 2008.

If this comes to fruition then Briggs is obviously not well thought of by the brass.

Yeah, we need a RB not a LB. Briggs must be a shit player in practice as he does pretty well when he plays. Don't know why he doesn't get more chances.

In recent weeks, Fulham have been heavily linked with Vitesse left sided defender and midfielder Alexander Buttner and had a reported bid of EU 2 million turned down. Reports emanating from Holland tonight are indicating that QPR are in advanced talks with Vitesse to secure his signature and that Buttner has already met with Mark Hughes.

QPR are looking for a new left back after they didn't take up the option to sign Taye Taiwo on a permanent deal after his loan spell.

It would appear from these reports that QPR are now favourites to secure his signature and could well finalise the deal shortly.

Another update on Buttner:

The Eredivisie midfielder, 23, was one of nine uncapped players on the provisional squad list of 36 for the Netherlands ahead of Euro 2012 but missed out on the final 23.

The former Ajax youth player has just one year left on his contract with his current club and is likely to move this summer, but remains cagey over his future.

“It was impressive,” Buttner told Voetbal International. “Everything is organised very professional and the people I've met were very nice. I had some good conversations.”

Craven Cottage is reportedly Buttner's favoured destination, but German side Werder Bremen are also believed to be vying to secure his services.

Alexander Buttner, a target for Fulham and Queens Park Rangers, has stated that he would prefer a move to Southampton after the south coast club declared their interest in him.

It was thought that Fulham, who are known to be interested in the Vitesse Arnhem left back, would lead the pack but upon visiting Saints' training setup, Buttner believes his future is red.

"I want to go to Southampton," he told De Telegraaf. "I have to wait for both clubs to reach an agreement, but I count on the co-operation of Vitesse."

After turning down a bid of around £1.6 million from Fulham, Vitesse are the only obstacle for Buttner, who suggests his preference for Southampton stems from their ambition.

"It would be a massive blow if this won't go through," said Buttner, who is under contract with Vitesse for one more year.

"I have been to Southampton and everything - including the living conditions - are perfect. The club, the stadium, everything, surprised me. Fantastic.

"And Southampton have big ambitions. With the new investor they want the same as Manchester City."

I'm not quite sure Buttner is Man City standard but he can only dream.

 Last I looked Man City isn't building their team by buying players for the loose change in their pockets. I had to google Vitesse to find out they are in Holland. Which means the kid probably plays little to no defense, but can get down the flank. This is when you wish there was truth serum given to the player. Buttner would then say he knows he has no chance to starting for Fulham unless Riise got hurt.

The agent of Vitesse Arnhem full-back Alexander Buttner has claimed that Fulham are "very serious" with their reported interest in his client, suggesting a deal could well be imminent.

The defender, who has been strongly linked with Fulham over the course of the summer, was known to be keen on joining Southampton and a deal between both Saints and Vitesse appeared firmly in place just over a week ago. However, despite Buttner's assertions that St Mary's was his preferred destination, the transfer broke down after interference from a third party.

This has re-opened the door for Martin Jol, who sees the defender as a perfect acquisition. The Dutchman had a bid rejected before the Saints interest came to light but, with these latest revelations, another offer could be on the cards from Fulham.

"At the end, we didn't come to a deal with Southampton and Vitesse," Alexander Busac, the player's representative, told De Telegraaf. "We look ahead and happily there is a lot of interest.

"Hannover and Fulham are very serious.

"Two French clubs have confirmed by mail they are looking to sign Buttner, but haven't made a bid. Within the next [few] days they will contact Vitesse."
