Now we want £5m? I really hope writers are being lazy and going off that random number thrown out a couple of weeks ago when Everton were first linked as that's still way too cheap.

For Dempsey, I've seen 4M on the low end and 23M on the high end. Suspect it'll wind up being 10M given his age and that he's only got a year left on his current deal. That's if, in fact, he actually leaves.

We have the same average salary as Everton, so no idea how they entered the discussion. They are no more likely for Europa/Champs Lg than Fulham.

According to reports Manchester United are interested in Fulham forward Clint Dempsey.

The USA international has admitted he wants to play in the Champions League and so is looking for a big-club move.

It is understood that Dempsey is being eyed by both Arsenal and Liverpool.

However, the Daily Star claims United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is also showing interest.

Dembele hints at Fulham stay

MOUSSA Dembele insists he feels totally committed to playing for Fulham – because of Martin Jol.

The Belgian has been the subject of a great deal of speculation about his future, because he has yet to sign a new deal and has only a year to go on his current contract.

But the good news for now, as far as Fulham fans are concerned, is that he says he is not angling for a move and is simply thinking about next season at the Cottage.

The club hope that means he will put pen to paper and not just wind down his contract and walk out as a free agent in 2013.

The Fulham boss, too, is anxious to keep his man. As soon as Jol arrived a year ago, he identified the talented midfielder as a player he rated highly and wanted to build his team around.

"I'm very happy to stay at Fulham, especially because of the boss," Dembele told the Chronicle.

"I think it's very important to have the backing of the manager and he’s a coach who gives me a lot of confidence – that’s why I feel I owe it to the gaffer as well.

"I think every player needs that and I’m no different. I go to training every day and work with joy. It’s a fantastic club and I’m not in a hurry to move anywhere."

As if to demonstrate his single mindedness about Fulham, Dembele added: "I'm very happy with the change this year in the position I play because I’m a player who likes to have the ball as much as possible – and that is down to the manager as well.

"I think I can hold the ball very well – and it’s an advantage to the team if I have a lot of the ball, so I like that position a lot.

"I’m also very happy with the way the season went. The club is doing very well and we have a very strong team with good players.

"Next year, everybody wants to do even better. I’m not sure what will be our target next season, because in a way it’s the club and manager who decide.

"I don’t know if it is realistic to try for fourth or fifth or sixth, but I think we should look to do even better than this season and last. Maybe we will have more energy because we don’t play in Europe this season and we can concentrate on the league."

Sounds more and more like he's staying. But I will not get my hopes up too much until the window closes and he's still a Cottager.

Sounds optimistic. Assuming he stays, who sits? I'm guessing Murphy more often than not and we'll see Diarra and Dembele at CM. Not good for Sidwell. Surely we won't move him into the CAM slot. We need goals from that spot.

For Dembele, it would be the wise move. He's incomplete as a player and playing regular football with us will only sweeten the pot for him down the road. Leaving now, I think he'd not only get "prospect" money, but "prospect" treatment as well where he'd wind up stuck on someone's bench and stall his development.

When will the real wheeling and dealing heat up for these two? After the Euros?

I'm wondering the same thing. I don't understand the transfer period as much as free-agency over here. It seems like when top free agents are available in any major sport, it's all you hear about 24-7 (hello Manning, welcome to denver!) the silence is killing me. what happens if it's a last minute deal and then fulham are stuck with $10M and no one to sign? from an accounting stand point, great I guess.

The window doesn't open until July 1. All the dealings so far have either been free-agent movers or "agreements" between clubs. As for Frei, IIRC, you can't play out your contract and leave on a free until you are older than he will be next summer.

I feel like a kid at Christmas. We're going to have handful of new faces to see soon. I guess i've already come to complete grips with the reality that Demps and Dembele are gone.

Bring on the new blood!

We'll see about Dembélé. I have my hopes a bit up on him staying. But, yeah, we're going to have to go shopping to replace our Forwards that have left over the past 6+ months and most likely Dempsey.

Demps was supposed to play in Messi's charity match last night in Miami, but I didn't see him mentioned in the only newspaper account I read (Jozy, Boca and Edu were).

Anybody got the 411?

The Dempsey and Dembele watch thread

Postby DCHeather » Sun Jun 24, 2012 1:02 pm

Fulham recalled or requested him not to play. Some are speculating because they don't want him to risk injury because of a potential transfer move.
