Tempted to put this in the "Soccer People" thread.

A sad, but odd story:

http://www.myfoxny.com/story/18865956/e ... p-in-china

Euro 2012 obsessive dies after 11 nights without sleep in China

CHANGSHA, China -
A Chinese soccer fan died at his home after going 11 nights without sleep as he watched every single Euro 2012 game from Poland and Ukraine.

Jiang Xiaoshan died from exhaustion June 19 after reportedly staying up every night to watch the Euros with his friends.

After watching Italy defeat the Republic of Ireland, the 26-year-old fan went back to his home in Changsha, took a shower and fell asleep. Xiaoshan never woke up.

Sources claim that the combined effects of alcohol, tobacco and sleep deprivation were to blame for his untimely death. Xiaoshan's friends were left shocked after learning of his death, stating that he lived a "relatively healthy life."

It is not the first time fans have suffered health issues watching international tournaments from different time zones. Several people were admitted to hospitals during the World Cup tournaments in 2006 and 2010 due to exhaustion.

Because of the time difference, all the European Championship games are played in the middle of the night in China.

What people will do sometimes to themselves for entertainment and sport.

Chicago police find an outdoor marijuana farm worth around $10 million on land near a freeway. They caught no suspects but found a sleeping bag and fresh food. What's going to happen to all that weed?

Police officers, along with crews from the city's forestry and streets and sanitation departments, spent all of Wednesday cutting down the plants, which will be burned.

Do you think many city workers volunteered to help with the burning part? :banana-stoner:

Sidenotes: Yard Sign Antics and Tweaking the Mullah's Noses

After seeing Twitchy's page on Progressives bragging about peeing or pooping on Romeny Yard Signs, I waited till I saw something for myself, sure enough I did.. two doors down from me.. and as I noted on FB:
YARD SIGN MISSING!
My neighbors no longer have their yard sign with Romney cartoon face and half a funnel imposed over the face and captioned 'Pee Here'.
Makes me kinda sad.
That's it's not there, anymore, I mean.

Seriously.. I am very much against yard sign sabotage.. I like to know who people really are.
In this case, I already knew,, and wanted others to know, too. I've known 'em since we first moved in.. over thirty years ago. They were Morons then, {before we even knew their politics} and nothing's changed.
- Invited us to a party and we weren't there 15 minutes before hubby had his hand on Pat's ass. That was nothing new.. but usually the horndogs waited till my wife had a few beers.

I did a quick scan and wondered how Redknapp [Twitchy] had signed Antic when I thought he'd retired. Then I wondered what team was "The Yard." As you know very well, 'fog, what one our age THINKS he sees/hears is often much more entertaining than what is really there.

Carry on: nothing to see here.

"what one our age THINKS he sees/hears is often much more entertaining than what is really there. "

Exactly! All depends on how one engages with reality.

It's like you guys have a language all your own. You use so many "inside" phrases and oblique references in your posts that it's difficult at times to figure out what the hell you're saying. Then you get upset because we're "purposely" missing your point.

Scary, really.

Wow, I cant believe what I just heard. Tall people are less green? Lets inject kids with hormones to stop their growth. I know, maybe we should just limit people to one child per couple. China did it and look how green their country is, and btw, their economy is growing.

And that guy is the director of Bioethics? Are you freakin' kidding me? I guess in the facebook, texting, globalized world we live in now a days, bioethics has morphed into "lets push the limits of bioethics" by leaving the "un" out of the unethical.

That is really cool. Even as a geezer, I'd ride that.
Sadly, that could never be done in the US.. just watch Law Firm commercials.

Unexpectedly is now a sort of a dog whistle for Command and Control Narrative Fail
Kind'a like 'Oh, Snap!' for the elite and informed press.
I, of course, am shocked.
