Murphy "I'm staying at Fulham" (Update...Not so much)

Danny Murphy is ready to commit the remainder of his playing career to Fulham by signing an extension to a contract that expires this summer.

Murphy turned 35 last month so this is likely to be his last big deal before starting a new career either as a coach or as a football pundit on television.

But while reports suggested he might follow former Fulham boss Mark Hughes to Queens Park Rangers, Murphy today said: “I have no desire to be anywhere else. There is always speculation when you haven’t signed a contract.

“There has been no great urgency because I’m happy here and the club are happy with me. There are a few things to nail down which hopefully will be done in the next week or two.”

Always great to start the week with some good news. It's coming to an end, but the Captain has provided a lot of great memories.

DANNY MURPHY is set to sign a new deal at Fulham.

The 35-year-old was on the Premier League’s ‘free transfer’ list last week, but sources at the club insist a new contract is close to agreement.

Murphy made 48 appearances last season and boss Martin Jol has been considering having the midfielder on his back room staff. He was positive about an extension at the end of the season, despite interest from QPR.

Jol preferred Murphy to Dickson Etuhu and Steve Sidwell last season and the veteran formed a partnership with Moussa Dembele.

Meanwhile, keeper David Stockdale reckons returning to Fulham mid-season from his loan at Ipswich cost him a place at Euro 2012 with England.

“It is all about playing regularly and playing well, even if it is in the Championship,” he said. “Rob Green at West Ham proved that.”

This one is a big non-shocker for me but I am still glad to hear it.

Maybe a shocker in the works?

Danny Murphy is considering a surprise move to relegated Blackburn.

The former Liverpool and England midfielder, 35, has become a free agent after five years at Fulham and is ready to drop out of the Premier League if he can agree a two-year deal.

Blackburn face competition from several other Championship clubs, however, with Leicester also believed to be interested.

Will Danny Murphy be a Fulham player next season?

I, currently, seriously have my doubts.

Despite talk of Danny being offered a one-year deal at Craven Cottage, the dark clouds are gathering with the plethora of rumours that continue to link him with a short move across West London to Queens Park Rangers.

The insinuation being that Mark Hughes wants to take his former skipper to Loftus Road to stead a ship that diced, perilously, with relegation last season.

We suspect that if the terms are better than those offered by Fulham then Danny will leave.

What are your thoughts?

Will Danny be wearing our shirt next season or will he have joined Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson as Fulham old-boys at Loftus Road?

Danny Murphy is reportedly close to signing for Blackburn Rovers.

The Lancashire Evening News suggest that Murphy has undergone a medical at Ewood Park.

QPR boss Mark Hughes has shown some interest in signing the veteran midfielder, whose Fulham contract is about to expire.

Meanwhile, DJ Campbell is attracting interest from Reading and West Ham, according to The Sun.

The striker joined QPR from Blackpool a year ago but endured an injury-blighted season, managing only one goal.

It is claimed that Rangers could be willing to sell him for £700,000.

The Sun also report a war of words involving Wigan chairman Dave Whelan and the agent of Victor Moses, who is said to be closer to joining Chelsea.

Umm...starting to have uneasy feelings about next season.

So long Danny, good luck to you at Blackburn.

At least is wasn't QPR.

I hope our budget is big as we have alot of holes now. We have lost three players so far that have played a lot when available. And we might not even be done here as Etuhu will probably be sold and his backup, Gecov, is going out on loan. I guess this is the summer of change. Hopefully Jol gets it right.

Yeah, it's definitely going to be a completely different team (even if a few names are the same). We'll miss Murphy for sure.

After the transfer window closes, this will be Jol's team. Let's hope the team does well in the transfer market, but it's not looking too good right now (although it's very early, and doesn't open until July 1 for players under contract).
