QPR on the verge of signing AJ

QPR boss Mark Hughes is closing in on the signings of striker Andy Johnson and defender Ryan Nelsen.

Former Fulham frontman Johnson is a free agent after rejecting a new deal at Craven Cottage.

The 31-year-old worked under Hughes during his time in charge in SW6 and is keen to hook up again with his former boss.

Nelsen is also available on a free transfer after leaving Spurs following a short-term deal at White Hart Lane.

Wonder if can stay healthy?

I doubt he'll be successful enough that we'd regret losing out on him, I'd still hate to see him in a QPR kit. Yuck!

Would have preferred he had gone somewhere else, but can't see him making too much of a mark there. Good for him to get a 2 year deal.

As Branch Rickey used to say, "An addition by subtraction." Outside of the first QPR game, what did he really do for us this season? I question how much he was really hurt, or just not used by Jol.

I appreciate the workrate and energy he brought when he did play. However, I suspect when all is said and done I will have missed AJ more while he was here than I will after he's gone. Hopefully we'll get a much better ROI on the next striker we buy, b/c for the money spent, AJ was just shy of a bust. I have no fear of him at QPR and think he's another who should have given MLS a look. Based on his strike rate against lesser sides, I think he could do quite well here and finish his career on a high....assuming he can stay off the physio's table.

To be fair, AJ was quite good in the '08-09 season which got us to the Europa League (i.e. the only year he was consistently healthy) and none of us will soon get that QPR game out of memories (even though I didn't even see it). Still, overall I agree with Matt. It'll be weird seeing him and Zamora as strike partners in a different uniform.

I'll miss AJ. He brought a work ethic, and not to be understated, joy to the squad when he played. He was always the first to celebrate a teammate's goal. Cisse, Zamora and AJ, not to mention Campbell, could be pretty darn good if all healthy.

Unfortunately, he's getting older and spends more time off the pitch than on it. With Pog and AJ leaving (and most likely Dempsey) we're going to see some new faces at Forward. Let's hope they're ready for the Prem. Will we see a lot more of Trotta and Sa this season? Are they ready?

Andy Johnson was unhappy about being played in a wide position

QPR new boy Andy Johnson has revealed that he fell out with Fulham manager Martin Jol after leaving the Whites as a free agent.

The Dutchman was also believed to have fallen out with Bobby Zamora as well and both now ply their trade at Loftus Road.

“Martin Jol is a great coach, but the truth is we didn’t see eye to eye,” said Johnson.

“I had several conversations with him about playing me out wide, but they went nowhere.

“I can play the role, but it’s not my best position, and there are not many wingers who score a lot of goals from out wide.

“Last year I don’t think I got the amount of games my early-season form warranted.”

Where is AggieMatt? I know he would most likely side with Jol, me thinks. Because he only mentioned that AJ should play wide about 50 or so time during the course of the season in the game day chat room.
